Tema, Oct. 16, GNA – An initiative that uses games, competitions and interactive activities to teach French to children is seeking to make language learning more engaging beyond the traditional classroom environment.

The initiative, dubbed the “Super Wonderland French Funfair and Games,” is scheduled for November 7, 2026, at the Legon Stadium in Accra.

The event is expected to bring together children aged between six and 17 years for a range of activities designed to help them practise the French language in an informal and enjoyable setting.

Madam Mildred Frimpong, Chief Executive Officer of GH Online French Lessons for Kids/Adults and Corporate, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the annual programme was introduced five years ago following concerns among stakeholders about declining interest and participation in conventional French language instruction.

She said activities lined up for this year’s event would include French quizzes, cooking, reading and picture-description competitions, as well as dancing, with participating schools competing for trophies and medals.

The programme is being held on the theme: “Une langue ajoutée est une valeur ajoutée” (An Added Language is an Added Value).

Madam Frimpong said the initiative also aimed at highlighting the practical importance of French for Ghanaian children, noting that Ghana shares borders with several French-speaking countries, including Côte d’Ivoire, Togo, Burkina Faso and Benin.

According to her, proficiency in French could help young people communicate effectively with their counterparts in neighbouring countries and participate meaningfully in regional economic, cultural and diplomatic activities.

Beyond the funfair, GH Online French Lessons has supported French language education through the donation of storybooks to educational institutions and financial assistance to schools to establish French language studios.
