Dambai (O/R), Oct 29, GNA – Four persons have been remanded into police custody by the Dambai Circuit Court in connection with disturbances at Dwabrem, Worawora, in the Oti Region.
The accused are Kwame Aboagye Ahenkroa, 55; Prince Asante, 27; Daniel Wiafe, 20; and Kwabena Nsimbo, 22.
According to a press release issued by the Oti Regional Police Command and signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) John Nchor, the Public Affairs Officer for the region, and copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), the court remanded the four on October 27, 2026.
According to the police release, they are expected to reappear before the court on November 17, 2026.
The disturbances occurred on October 24, 2026, amid tensions surrounding the commencement of rites for the Akwantutenten Festival.
The police said the incident involved the burning of vehicle tyres and other acts of violence following reported disagreements over claims that a High Court injunction had been obtained to restrain the celebration.
Police personnel deployed to the area extinguished the fire and took steps to restore calm and order, the statement said.
The statement further indicated that the Oti Regional Security Council (REGSEC), at a meeting with representatives of the disputing families on October 26, urged all parties to seek redress through the appropriate courts and Houses of Chiefs.
The Council stressed that the chieftaincy dispute should be resolved through lawful processes and directed that all persons arrested in connection with the disturbances be dealt with in accordance with the law.
The Oti Regional Police Command appealed to all parties to remain calm, exercise restraint and respect due to legal processes to safeguard peace and security in Worawora.
It reiterated the importance of resolving disagreements through lawful and peaceful means to prevent further disturbances in the area.
