Bolgatanga, Oct. 21, GNA – Mr Alexis Adugdaa Ayamdor, a former District Chief Executive of the Bongo District, has pledged to strengthen grassroots structures and improve internal communication within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Upper East Region if elected Regional Secretary.

He said his priority would be to bridge the communication gap between regional leadership and constituency as well as branch executives to ensure that the concerns and welfare of party members received greater attention.

Mr Ayamdor made the pledge after successfully completing the party’s vetting process in Bolgatanga, ahead of the regional executive elections.

He said effective communication and regular engagement with grassroots members were essential to strengthening party unity, improving participation and ensuring that decisions taken at the regional level reflected the concerns of members at the lower levels.

“The role of the Regional Secretary is not just about sitting and writing minutes. It is the anchor of the party at the regional front,” he said.

He explained that the position required a leader capable of mobilising members, resolving internal disagreements and coordinating the activities of the party’s structures across the region.

Mr Ayamdor pledged to undertake regular visits to constituencies and engage branch executives, party elders, elected representatives and other stakeholders to make the regional secretariat more accessible and responsive to members’ concerns.

“The grassroots structures should not feel detached from the regional leadership, there should be sustained engagement that would help identify challenges confronting members and strengthen their commitment to the party,” he said.

The former DCE also pledged to promote an inclusive party environment in which women, young people and long-serving members could contribute meaningfully to its activities.

He said effective grassroots mobilisation would be important not only for consolidating the party’s existing electoral gains but also for expanding its support base in future elections.

Mr Ayamdor, who picked number two on the ballot paper, said his more than two decades of experience in local governance, development management and party organisation had exposed him to the operational needs of the party at different levels.

His political experience includes serving as a Unit Committee Member, Assembly Member for the Zorko-Kanga Electoral Area, Presiding Member of the Bongo District Assembly and Branch Secretary of the NDC.

He also served as the DCE of the Bongo District Assembly and worked with development organisations and institutions, including the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Catholic Relief Service, IBIS West Africa and Trax Ghana.

Mr Ayamdor said the experience had equipped him with practical knowledge of grassroots organisation and the challenges confronting party members, which he intended to draw on to improve coordination between constituency executives, Members of Parliament and government appointees.

He also pledged to build on the organisational legacy of Mr Akamugri Donatus Atanga, the Upper East Regional Minister and the current Regional Secretary of the party, who he said contributed to strengthening its structures ahead of the 2024 general elections.

He cautioned that winning parliamentary seats should not make the party complacent, calling for deliberate efforts to address internal differences, strengthen its numerical support and maintain meaningful engagement with voters.

Mr Ayamdor appealed to delegates to consider competence, service and loyalty in deciding who should lead the regional secretariat.

He expressed gratitude to the party leadership for what he described as a smooth vetting process and reiterated his commitment to unity, discipline, accountability and effective party administration.
