Five injured as Russia hits bridge in Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhya

Kiev, Oct 6. (dpa/GNA) – Russia has attacked a bridge over the Dnipro river in the city of Zaporizhzhya, injuring five people, Ukrainian authorities said on Tuesday, after similar strikes on bridges in Kiev last week.

Zaporizhzhya Governor Mykhailo Semikin, reported the attack on Telegram. He did not specify the type of attack, referring only to shelling in general terms, and published a photo that he said showed a crater on the bridge’s roadway.

Traffic was temporarily halted, he said. Russian forces attacked bridges in Kiev with drones for the first time last week.

The wide Dnipro river flows from north to south through Ukraine, dividing the country. Any destruction of the bridges would have a massive impact on the country and significantly hamper its defence.
