Forikrom (Bono East), Oct. 22, GNA – Mr Augustus Addae, the Techiman Municipal Agricultural Extension Officer, has called on farmers to maintain good agricultural practices to improve crop yields and enhance food productivity.
He said the production of quality crops and increased yields would position the nation to achieve the targets of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Mr Addae made the call during a durbar held to commemorate the 2026 World Food Day celebration at Forikrom in the Techiman Municipality of the Bono East Region.
The event brought together stakeholders in the agricultural sector, including women farmer groups, chiefs and queen mothers, and agricultural officers, to highlight the importance of food security, healthy eating and sustainable agriculture.
The programme was jointly organised by the Abrono Organic Farming Project (ABOFAP) and the Rural Women Farmers Association of Ghana (RUWFAG) on the theme: “Empowering Rural Women: Building a Resilient Future.”
Mr Addae emphasised that access to safe, nutritious and quality food remained essential for good health and increased productivity and urged farmers to seek technical advice from agricultural extension officers during farming seasons.
He noted that improved farming practices would support sustainable agricultural production and strengthen the country’s capacity to meet its food requirements.
Nana Kwaw Adams, Twafohene of the Techiman Traditional Area, urged Ghanaians to patronise locally produced foods to promote healthy living.
He said healthy food was essential for human survival and wellbeing, adding that the consumption of local foods would also help preserve Ghana’s culture and traditions.
