ECG customers urged to cooperate with Franchise Officers

Kumasi, Oct. 16, GNA – The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) Limited, has urged its customers to cooperate with Franchise Officers to deliver quality services to them.

Mr Benjamin Obeng Antwi, the Ashanti West Regional Public Relations Officer of the ECG, said Franchise Officers are former meter readers, who have been charged with additional responsibilities.

He was speaking to the Ghana News Agency in an interview about some challenges the ECG faced during the delivery of quality services to its customers.

Mr Antwi said the Franchise Officers were now responsible for not only meter reading but disconnection of illegal connections and customers who owed arrears.

Again, the Franchise Officers are authorised to monitor prepaid meters through customer visitations, and distribute bills to customers.

Mr Antwi noted that, the Franchise Officers were piloted in Abuakwa and Suame Districts in 2025 as part of the ECG’s initiative to strengthen revenue mobilisation and quality service delivery.

Currently, Mr Antwi said the officers have been deployed to all the other districts in the Ashanti West Region since the pilot project was successful.

However, he observed that the ECG had received many reports of customers’ refusing to allow the Franchise Officers to perform their duties.

This, according to Mr Antwi, negatively affected revenue mobilisation of the company and the quality of service delivery to its customers.

He said the credibility of the Franchise Officers could be verified through their Identification Cards (IDs) and signed authorisation letters.

“The franchise officers will also make available signed authorization letters with contact numbers of their respective districts as proof that they have been put in charge of the area under the district,” said Mr Antwi.

He entreated customers not to pay any money to the Franchise Officers as it was not part of their responsibilities to collect money from customers before or after disconnections due to arrears or illegal connections.

However, Mr Antwi encouraged customers to download the ECG PowerApp or use the short code *226# to make payments to the ECG if need be.

He assured the ECG customers and the general public of the company’s readiness to provide quality service to the region and the country at large.
