Denu (V/R), Oct. 12, GNA – Madam Abla Dzifa Gomashie, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ketu South, has donated 20 streetlights to the Denu Market to improve visibility and security for traders and customers.

The donation comprised 10 boxes of streetlights intended to address concerns about inadequate lighting in the market.

Madam Gomashie, who is also the Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, said the lights would replace previously installed ones she had donated to the market, which were no longer functioning.

She also announced plans to construct a new market shed before the end of 2027 to improve trading conditions for the market women.

She said a contractor was expected to arrive at the site within a few weeks to begin work on the project.

Madam Gomashie expressed concern about the difficulties faced by traders who sold their goods under the scorching sun and during the rainy season, and said the proposed shed would provide a more suitable trading environment.

She appealed to traders operating along the roadside to move into the market to promote orderliness and improve trading activities.

Madam Margaret Tunu, the Queen of the Hedzranawo and Denu market, who received the streetlights on behalf of the traders, thanked the MP for responding to their concerns.

She said she had previously appealed to the Ketu South Municipal Assembly over the challenges facing the market but had seen little progress, prompting her to seek the MP’s intervention.

Some of the market women also welcomed the donation, expressing hope that the lights would improve their sense of security, particularly at night.

They, however, raised concerns about persistent flooding during the rainy season, saying it disrupted trading, threatened their goods, and made conditions uncomfortable for traders and customers.

The women appealed for urgent measures to address the flooding and improve drainage in the market.

In response, Madam Gomashie assured them of her commitment to addressing their concerns and promised a prompt intervention.
