Accra, Oct. 9, GNA – The Council of State on Friday met with striking pre-tertiary teacher unions in Accra to appeal for the suspension of their strike and the resumption of classes.
The meeting sought to add the Council’s voice to ongoing efforts to resolve the unions’ grievances as engagements with their employers continued.
It followed an earlier meeting between the unions and the Minister of Labour, Jobs and Employment.
Mr Edward Doe Adjaho, the Chairperson of the Council, described the meeting as fruitful and said the Council was awaiting a favourable response from the unions.
“Our children are at home. Our teachers are at home and the classroom is empty. At the end of it all, I can assure you that we have had a very fruitful discussion,” he said.
Mr Adjaho said the Council was waiting for feedback from the unions following their meeting with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission.
Nene Drolor Bosso Adamtey I, the Greater Accra Regional Representative of the Council, commended the unions for their conduct during the discussions.
He said they had presented their grievances frankly.
Meanwhile, the unions have proceeded to the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission to continue their engagements for the day.
More to follow.
