Damongo (S/R), Oct. 2, GNA – Construction work has begun on a 160-bed Savannah Regional Hospital and Referral Facility at Soalepe, a suburb of Damongo in the West Gonja Municipality, to improve residents’ access to quality health care.
The project, expected to be completed within two years, would also strengthen the Savannah Region’s capacity to provide comprehensive referral and specialist health services.
It would comprise an Out-Patient Department, patient wards, laundry facilities, a recovery garden, accommodation facilities, streetlights, internal access roads and other supporting infrastructure.
Mr Yakubu Yussif Castro, West Gonja Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), on behalf of the Savannah Regional Minister, handed over the project site to FRIDOUG Limited, the construction firm.
Mr Castro, speaking at the handing-over ceremony, said the project demonstrated the Government’s commitment to expanding health infrastructure and improving health care delivery in the region.
He charged the contractor to execute the project according to the required quality standards and complete it within the agreed timeframe.
Mr Castro urged the contractor to prioritise the engagement of local labour, adhere strictly to health and safety requirements, and maintain close collaboration with the Municipal Assembly and other stakeholders throughout the implementation period.
He assured the contractor of the Assembly’s support and expressed optimism that the facility, when completed, would significantly enhance health care delivery in the municipality and the region.
Mr Frimpong Douglas, Managing Director of FRIDOUG Limited, expressed appreciation to the Government and the Assembly for the confidence reposed in the company.
He said the company was committed to delivering quality work within the stipulated two-year period.
Mr Douglas also pledged the company’s adherence to health and safety protocols, prioritisation of local labour and close collaboration with stakeholders to ensure the smooth and successful execution of the project.
