Accra, Oct. 5, GNA – A 28-year-old banker has appeared before the Adenta Circuit Court for allegedly stealing GH¢1 million from a community bank.
Adjetey Isaac Noi, the Branch Manager of Oyibi Area Community Bank PLC, is accused of reactivating a dormant customer account and using it as a transit account to transfer funds to various accounts in different banks.
The alleged offence occurred between March and September 2025.
Noi has been charged with stealing. He pleaded not guilty.
The court, presided over by Mrs Angela Attachie, granted him bail in the sum of GH¢1 million with two sureties. The sureties are required to justify the bail with landed property.
Defence counsel prayed for bail, arguing that the accused was not a flight risk because he has a fixed place of abode at Dodowa in the Greater Accra Region.
The case has been adjourned to February 17, 2026.
Presenting the facts, Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo said the complainant was the Head of Audit and Inspection at ARB Apex Bank PLC, while the accused served as Branch Manager of Oyibi Area Community Bank PLC.
On September 28, 2026, prosecution said the complainant and a team of auditors conducted an audit and inspection of the Oyibi branch following intelligence that fraudulent transactions were being carried out there.
During the exercise, the auditors allegedly detected a transfer of GH¢1 million from the bank’s internal account into account number 3061110010021221, held in the name Nii Adjei Sowatey, at the same bank.
The audit team immediately informed the bank’s head office, which directed the complainant to lodge an official complaint with the police.
The prosecution said Noi was subsequently arrested but failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for the transfer of the funds during police interrogation.
Investigations, the court heard, revealed that the accused allegedly reactivated the dormant account without the account holder’s consent and used it as a transit account to channel the funds to various accounts in other banks.
Noi was unable to account for the transfers during investigations, prosecution said.
