Accra, Oct. 3, GNA – The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has conducted reignition prevention operations barely 48 hours after successfully containing the fire that gutted the DuraPlast water-tank manufacturing facility at Avenor in Accra.

In a statement issued and signed by its management, DuraPlast announced that it would resume operations on Monday, October 5.

It expressed gratitude to the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, the Ghana National Fire Service, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), and the Ghana Police Service for their swift response and collaborative efforts in containing the blaze.

The company also extended its appreciation to neighbouring businesses and members of the community who supported the firefighting operations.

It assured customers and the public that it would continue to provide updates on any further developments regarding the incident and its ongoing recovery efforts.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with the Ghana News Agency, ACFO II Rashid Nisawu, Greater Accra Regional Fire Commander, disclosed that firefighters remained at the scene and continued to work tirelessly to ensure that the fire did not reignite.

He assured both the company and the public that the necessary investigations and assessments would be conducted to help prevent similar incidents in the future.

In the early hours of Thursday, October 1, 2026, a fire gutted the DuraPlast factory, a leading water-tank manufacturing company, destroying key assets, including storage tanks, machinery and other equipment.

Personnel of the GNFS responded promptly to the scene and successfully contained the fire, preventing it from spreading to nearby factories and businesses.

Preliminary reports from fire investigators indicate that the blaze may have originated from a gas stove explosion in one of the nearby slum dwellings, which subsequently triggered the fire.

Investigations are, however, ongoing to establish the exact cause of the fire.

Following the outbreak, officers from various key institutions worked diligently alongside firefighters to bring the situation under control and extinguish the blaze.

Thick plumes of smoke darkened the skies over parts of Accra, raising concerns among residents and motorists about the potential impact of the fire.

Key government officials, including Mr Mahama Ayariga, Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, and Mr Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, the Interior Minister, pledged swift action to strengthen fire prevention measures across Ghana’s industrial sector and improve emergency response systems.
