Assemblyman appeals for reshaping of Titiaka-Dzogbe Kofe-Tsotorme road

By Daniel Agbesi Latsu

Dzogbe Kofe (O/R), Oct. 09, GNA – Mr Masawudu Mutawakil Malamfari, the Assemblyman for Koto Nkwanta Electoral Area in the Kadjebi District of the Oti Region, has appealed to the District Assembly to reshape the Titiaka-Dzogbe Kofe-Tsotorme road to improve accessibility.

He said the continued neglect of the eight-kilometer road was having adverse effects on the economic activities, education, health and general wellbeing of residents of communities along the route.

Mr Malamfari made the appeal to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) after inspecting the road from Titiaka to Dzogbe Kofe to assess its condition.

The road had developed deep potholes and gullies at sections of the road, making it difficult for motorists and residents to navigate, particularly during the rainy season.

Mr Malamfari said residents, predominantly farmers who cultivated cocoa, maize, cocoyam, banana, plantain and other food and cash crops, were unable to fully benefit from their produce because of the poor road network.

The bad nature of the road often increased the cost of transporting farm produce to market centers, while some farmers were compelled to leave portions of their produce on farms because of the difficulties in accessing these communities.

He said the situation was also affecting school attendance, particularly among pupils who travelled along the road to attend the Titiaka D/A Primary School and Tsotorme D/A Primary School.

Mr Malamfari said during the rainy season, some portions of the road became almost impassable, making it difficult for learners and teachers to commute between the communities and the schools.

The Assemblyman therefore appealed to the District Assembly to deploy its District Roads Improvement Programme (DRIP) machines to reshape and improve the road before the situation deteriorated further.

He said improving the road would not only facilitate the movement of people and goods but also promote agricultural activities, improve access to education as well as essential services, noting that timely intervention would improve the livelihoods of residents and boost economic activities in the affected communities.
