Accra, Oct. 8, GNA – A delegation of the World Assemblies of God Fellowship has paid a courtesy call on Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa to discuss preparations for its 10th Triennial Congress in Accra.
The congress, scheduled for October 14 to 16, 2026, will be the first to be held in Africa.
Rev. Stephen Wengam, General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God, Ghana, who led the delegation, said the visit was to inform the Government about the congress and seek the Ministry’s support for its successful organisation.
He said the event was expected to bring spiritual and economic benefits to Ghana and expressed appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama and the Government for supporting preparations.
Rev. Wengam appealed to the Ministry to facilitate visa applications for international participants through Ghana’s diplomatic missions abroad.
He also announced that former Malawian President Rev. Dr Lazarus Chakwera, a former General Superintendent of the Malawi Assemblies of God, would attend.
Mr Ablakwa commended the Fellowship for choosing Ghana to host the congress and acknowledged the Assemblies of God’s contributions to global evangelisation and peace.
He assured the delegation of the Government’s support, saying President Mahama had directed the Ministry to provide the necessary assistance.
The Minister appointed two senior Ministry officials to the Local Organising Committee (LOC), joining a staff member already serving on it.
Rev. Wengam was accompanied by Rev. Albert Anane, General Secretary, and Rev. Andrews Awintia, LOC Chairman, among others.
Mr Ablakwa was joined by Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister James Gyakye Quayson, the Ministry’s Chief Director, Ambassador Khadija Iddrisu, and other senior officials.
During the visit, Rev. Wengam presented a Bible to the Minister and urged him to be guided by the Word of God in the discharge of his duties.
