Tarkwa (W/R), Oct. 28, GNA – AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine has donated vocational training equipment and office furniture valued at GH¢123,396 to the Tarkwa Local Prison.
The items included industrial sewing machines to help inmates acquire practical skills to promote self-reliance and entrepreneurship after their release.
The mine also provided executive desks, ergonomic chairs, a sofa and stackable chairs to improve the working environment for prison personnel.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Mr Daniel Boadi, Managing Director of AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine, said the company’s core purpose was to mine in a manner that empowered people and advanced societies.
He said the donation aligned with the Government’s Prison 360 Initiative, which focuses on the holistic reformation, rehabilitation and reintegration of inmates.
Mr Boadi noted that investing in human capital within the prison system contributed to sustainable community development and social advancement.
“To support this objective, Iduapriem Mine presented these items,” the Managing Director added.
He said the donation built on the mine’s longstanding partnership with the Tarkwa Local Prison, which had included previous interventions such as the establishment of an infirmary, installation of ceiling fans, medical outreach programmes, and the recent reroofing and rewiring of the facility.
Mr Boadi commended the Ghana Prisons Service for its commitment to reforming lives and preparing inmates for successful reintegration into society.

He urged prison authorities to ensure the proper maintenance of the items to enable them to continue supporting inmate rehabilitation and prison operations.
Chief Superintendent of Prisons (CSP) Bright Gbogbo, Officer-in-Charge of the Tarkwa Local Prison, expressed appreciation to Iduapriem Mine for its continued support towards the prison’s development projects.
He said inmates should not merely endure hardship while serving their sentences but should be equipped with employable skills that would enable them to contribute meaningfully to national development upon their release.
