Accra, Oct. 5, GNA – Mr Edward Boateng, former Ambassador to China, has urged newly elected New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Chairman John Boadu to unite and rebuild the party.
Mr Boadu was elected at the NPP’s National Delegates Conference in Kumasi on Saturday, October 3, as part of the election of a new national executive team.
In a congratulatory message, Mr Boateng said Mr Boadu’s extensive experience within the party placed a significant responsibility on him to lead its organisational renewal.
“His election represents a powerful vote of confidence and places upon him an equally significant responsibility,” he said.
Mr Boateng urged Mr Boadu to revitalise the party’s grassroots structures, restore discipline and accountability, and rebuild public confidence in the NPP.
He also called for reconciliation, urging the new leadership to reach out to members who supported different candidates in the party’s internal contests, as well as those who felt disappointed, neglected or disconnected.
“Every tradition and tendency within the NPP must find a place in the rebuilding effort,” he said.
Mr Boateng said the party should draw lessons from its performance in the 2024 general election and prepare for 2028 with “unity, humility, hard work, fresh thinking and a compelling message” capable of reconnecting it with Ghanaians.
He said Mr Boadu’s experience as National Youth Organiser, National Organiser, Acting General Secretary and General Secretary gave him a deep understanding of the party’s structures and challenges.
Mr Boateng urged him to use that experience to build a united and formidable party capable of supporting its Leader and Flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, and positioning the NPP to return to government in 2029.
“The task now is to build a united and formidable Party capable of supporting our Flagbearer, winning back the confidence of Ghanaians and returning the NPP to government in 2029,” he said.
