Ve Golokuati (V/R), Oct. 3, GNA – The Afadzato South District Assembly has commissioned 20 development projects executed across the district to improve access to education, accommodation and potable water.
The commissioning exercise, which took place in various communities, forms part of the Assembly’s accelerated development agenda.
The ceremony was graced by Mr James Gunu, the Volta Regional Minister, who commissioned the projects with support from Mr Manfred Tawiah, the District Chief Executive for Afadzato South.
The first project to be commissioned was the District Coordinating Director’s (DCD) Residence at Ve Golokuati, where a plaque was unveiled.
Other projects commissioned included classroom blocks at Leklebi Dafor, Woadze Tsatoe, Goviefe Kowu, Kpeve Old Town and Adigbotornu, an ICT block at Vedeme and Tafi Abuife, KG blocks, teachers’ bungalows.
Addressing chiefs, opinion leaders and residents at Ve Golokuati, Mr James Gunu said the projects were evidence of the government’s Resetting Agenda, aimed at ensuring equitable development.
He said government under President John Dramani Mahama was committed to bridging the development gap between urban and rural communities.
“These 20 projects are not just buildings and boreholes, they represent hope, improved learning outcomes, dignified accommodation for our public servants and access to clean water for our people,” he said.
He said education remained a top priority, hence the investment in classroom blocks, KG blocks and ICT laboratories, to improve the quality of teaching and learning.
He noted that the provision of bungalows for the District Coordinating Director and other staff would improve staff retention and effective administration in the district.
On water, he said the 10 mechanised boreholes would help address water scarcity challenges in hard-to-reach communities.
Mr Gunu urged the beneficiary communities to take ownership of the facilities and ensure proper maintenance.
He warned against politicisation of development projects, stressing that the projects belonged to the people and must be protected.
He further appealed to traditional authorities to continue supporting government and to maintain peace and unity to accelerate development.
He commended the Afadzato South District Assembly, under the leadership of Mr Manfred Tawiah, for the judicious use of the District Assemblies Common Fund and other resources.
Mr Tawiah said the Assembly had completed 20 out of 50 planned projects, with work ongoing on the remaining 30 for subsequent commissioning.
