Zelensky’s plane almost hit by drone on way to Oslo, says Norway’s PM

Oslo, Sept 9. (dpa/GNA) – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s aircraft, was nearly struck by a drone while en route to Oslo, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre said on Wednesday.

The incident reportedly occurred as Zelensky, travelled from Moldova to the Norwegian capital early on Tuesday evening, to attend the funeral of the late king Harald V.

“That is the reality he finds himself in,” Støre said, according to broadcaster NRK. The Ukrainian authorities and Zelensky himself have not yet commented on the incident, and Støre reportedly provided no further details.

During a meeting on Wednesday morning, Zelensky told him that he had not had a good night’s sleep, Støre reportedly said, describing the situation as “dramatic.”

The Ukrainian leader had been on the phone, having to receive reports of missile strikes in his home country. According to the US think tank Institute for the Study of War (ISW), a Russian drone flew in Moldovan and Romanian airspace for about an hour on Tuesday.

According to the ISW, the defence ministries in Moldova and Romania reported that a Shahed drone had entered Moldovan airspace from Ukraine, continued on to Romania, and finally returned to Moldova before crashing there.

It is as yet unclear whether this was the drone mentioned by Støre.
