Hohoe (V/R), Sept. 30, GNA – Mr James Gunu, Volta Regional Minister, has visited flood areas and commiserated with victims in the Hohoe Municipality.
His visit began with a courtesy call on Togbega Gabusu VII, Paramount Chief of the Gbi Traditional Area.
Mr Gunu noted that disasters such as the flood do not inform neither were victims prepared for it.
He said there was the need for the dredging of the rivers, expanding culverts in the Municipality adding that citizens must be prepared to play their part.
Mr Gunu urged victims not to rush back to their homes because the water receded but wait for assessments on their buildings.
He noted that the Government would provide relief items for all victims.
Togbega Gabusu expressed gratitude to the Minister for the swift response, adding that they were happy no casualties were recorded.
He said things identified to be part of the cause of the incident included dumping of refuse into the River Dayi.
Togbega Gabusu said the nature of culverts needed expansion to be able to absorb enough volume of running water.
He also said the Assembly Physical Planning Department must be strict on building permit acquisition and ensure that structures were properly put up.
