Keta (V/R), Sept. 2, GNA – Vodza Iron Breakers has called on well-wishers, corporate bodies and stakeholders to come to their aid financially as the club prepares to face Sea Sharks Beach Soccer Club in the finals of the Ghana Beach Soccer Premier League (GBSPL).
Mr Gabriel Dzikunu, a management member of the Vodza Iron Breakers, based in the Keta Municipality of the Volta Region, said the club, despite its impressive run through the season, lacked the financial muscle to adequately prepare for the high-stakes encounter.
“Players need to be camped ahead of the finals to allow for proper bonding and tactical preparation, logistics, feeding and other essential needs of the team require urgent financial backing,” he said.
Mr Dzikunu appealed to individuals, philanthropists, businesses and the Keta Municipal Assembly to support the club, noting that the Iron Breakers’ achievement in reaching the finals was a proud moment for the Volta coastal belt that deserved to be celebrated with adequate support.
The finals, scheduled for September 27, 2026, at the Ada Assurance Beach Soccer Arena, would bring together the winners of the two zonal groups that shaped the 2025-2026 season, with Sea Sharks topping Group A and Vodza Iron Breakers emerging winners of Group B.
The championship match was set to kick off at 1300 hours, with the winner expected to pocket a cash prize of GHS 15,000, while the runner-up would go home with GHS 7,000, a development many have said underscored the growing financial incentives being introduced into the domestic beach soccer scene.
Sea Sharks BSC, founded in 2015, head into the final on the back of a highly competitive campaign that has established them as one of the most consistent sides on the coastal beach soccer circuit, having defeated the previous finalist, Cheetah Beach Soccer Club, among other strong contenders to top the league group A.
Vodza Iron Breakers, on the other hand, drawn from the Volta coastal belt, have equally impressed throughout the season and are often described as high-flying performers capable of testing even the league’s traditional heavyweights, including Sunset Sports Beach Soccer Club and Havedzi Mighty Warriors.
Organisers have billed the Ada Assurance Beach Soccer Arena, a venue that has previously hosted major finals in the competition, as a fitting stage for what promised to be a keenly contested decider between the two sides.
Beach soccer enthusiasts are expected to throng the venue in their numbers to witness the clash, with the technical teams of both clubs likely to spend the coming weeks to fine-tune strategies ahead of the high-stakes encounter.
Mr Emmanuel Etsey Dzah, a beach soccer fan at Keta, told the Ghana News Agency that the GBSPL had continued to grow in stature since its introduction, and has offered clubs from the coastal communities a competitive platform while also serving as a feeder for the national beach soccer team.
He, however, lamented the delay in staging the finals months after the close of the league season and called on stakeholders to ensure proper preparation and organisation ahead of the 2026-2027 season, as the year draws to a close while calling on all stakeholders to support the teams for the finals.
As the countdown to September 27 begins, all eyes would be on Ada as Sea Sharks and Vodza Iron Breakers prepare to write the final chapter of an entertaining season, with silverware, bragging rights, and the fate of the Iron Breakers’ appeal for support hanging in the balance.
