Washington/Copenhagen, Sept 20. (dpa/GNA) – The United States, Denmark and Greenland, have announced a breakthrough in their dispute over the Arctic island.
An agreement with the US is expected to be signed next week, the Danish and Greenlandic governments said.
US President Donald Trump had earlier said on Truth Social, that a deal on Greenland had been reached.
The agreement “gives the United States permanent control over security, and all other needs, in Greenland,” Trump said in his post.
The Danish government said on X that the agreement was expected to be signed during the UN General Assembly before going through the parliamentary procedures needed to enter into force.
“I am pleased that there is the prospect of a good agreement for Greenland, the Kingdom of Denmark and the United States,” Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen was quoted as saying in a statement.
