Takoradi, Sept 7, GNA — Twyford International (Keda Ghana Ceramics Co. Ltd) has been presented with the Local Employment and Skills Development Award in recognition of its outstanding contributions to local industrial capacity building and job creation, at the 2026 Western Regional Media and Corporate Social Impact (CSI) Awards.
The prestigious ceremony, organised by the Western/Western North Regional Branch of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), was under the theme: “Reporting Progress, Investing in People.”
The award recognised Twyford’s deliberate commitment to building an inclusive, and highly skilled local workforce in the Western Region.
Operating a state-of-the-art ceramic manufacturing facility in Aboadze in the Shama District , the company had grown from a major industrial player into a model for workforce localisation and technology transfer.
Dozens of local Ghanaian employees have transitioned into supervisory, engineering, and managerial roles, substantially reducing reliance on expatriate technical expertise while elevating local community income levels.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Joseph Nelson, the Western Regional Minister, stated that corporate institutions driving sustainable impact must go beyond financial donations to creating a long-term economic self-reliance for host communities.
He underscored the importance of collaboration between the private sector, traditional authorities, civil society, development partners and the media for sustainable development.
He encouraged journalists to uphold high standards of journalism and use their profession to inform, educate and positively influence society.
Mr George Mireku Duker, a Former Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, emphasised that corporate social involvement should align with community needs rather than just the company’s potential value.
He noted that corporate investment should be measured by the impact on people’s lives, not just the number of classrooms constructed or donations made.
He also urged journalists to go beyond reporting donations and investigate the impact of corporate investments, including how funds were used, who benefitted, and the long-term effects.
Mr David Wei, Business Manager of Twyford International, expressed appreciation to the GJA for the recognition, and reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting Ghana’s industrialisation agenda, driving export-quality manufacturing, and continuing to invest in the skills and capabilities of the local workforce.
