Kiev, Sept 29. (dpa/GNA) – At least two people were killed and six injured in Russian airstrikes on the north-eastern Ukrainian city of Sumy on Tuesday, President Volodymyr Zelensky said.
Four Russian glide bombs struck the city centre, Zelensky said on Telegram, including a school building.
I “thank the teachers and school administration, the children and staff were in the shelter; a total of 100 people were evacuated in time,” the president posted.
He accused Russia of bombing children, schools and ordinary homes.
Earlier, he reported other damage from Russian attacks overnight, saying data and business centres as well as residential buildings were struck in Kiev.
In the Odessa region, “an educational institution, a dormitory, and two foreign vessels” were hit, he added. A total of nine regions came under Russian attack overnight, resulting in damage to energy infrastructure, residential buildings and civilian companies.
The Defence Ministry in Moscow confirmed the strikes on the Kiev region and Odessa.
In Kiev and the surrounding region, two weapons depots and two data centres were hit, while in Odessa, Russian forces targeted two ships, a substation and port facilities, the ministry said on Telegram.
It is not possible to independently verify the claims.
Meanwhile, Russia’s TASS state-run news agency reported that at least six crew members were killed, when a Tu-95 military aircraft crashed in the eastern Amur region.
Another person was injured, the report said, citing the Defence Ministry in Moscow. The plane was on a training flight and crashed in an uninhabited area. It was not carrying ammunition. No information was initially provided about the possible cause of the incident.
The Tu-95 is a long-range bomber. Russia also uses aircraft of this type in its war of aggression against Ukraine, which has been ongoing for more than four and a half years.
