London, Sept 21. (dpa/GNA) – Another ship has been attacked in the Strait of Hormuz, in the second such incident to be reported on Monday.
The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) agency, citing military sources, said earlier on Monday that a tanker entering The Gulf was struck by a projectile.
The organization posted on its website that “a tanker conducting an inbound transit was struck by an unknown projectile.”
Two crew members were slightly injured, and there are currently no reports of environmental damage, the statement added.
The ship is reportedly en route to a nearby port. In the afternoon, the UKMTO reported a further incident in which a liquefied natural gas tanker, is said to have been struck by an unknown projectile. There were no injuries.
Iran is largely blocking traffic through the strait, as part of its ongoing conflict with the US.
The continued threat to shipping is causing severe disruption to the global trade in oil, gas and fertilizer.
US media have reported that the US military, has repeatedly and successfully escorted ships along the Omani coast through the passage, between the Gulf and the Gulf of Oman.
