Istanbul, Sept 8, (dpa/GNA) – Turkey’s forestry authority, said on Tuesday that firefighting crews were battling two major blazes in the southern provinces of Antalya and Adana.
Teams have brought four wildfires elsewhere under control, the General Directorate of Forestry (OGM) said on X.
Blazes in the tourist hotspots of Antalya’s Aksu district and Adana’s Kozan district remain active, with aerial and ground crews continuing efforts to bring them under control, it added.
Around 30 aircraft and several pieces of heavy machinery have joined 1,000 personnel across the affected areas, according to officials.
The Aksu fire, which broke out Monday evening and spread rapidly due to strong winds, forced the evacuation of homes and briefly closed the Antalya-Isparta highway as flames reached the roadside, according to state news agency Anadolu.
A separate fire in Antalya’s Serik district, which was brought under control earlier, damaged five homes, rendering them uninhabitable, while three people were hospitalized for smoke inhalation, Anadolu reported.
