Denu (V/R), Sept. 8, GNA — Thirty young people in the Ketu South Municipality are undergoing a six-month apprenticeship training in mobile phone repairs as part of an initiative by Madam Abla Dzifa Gomashie, Member of Parliament for the area and Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, to equip young people with practical skills for employment and self-reliance.
The beneficiaries, who began the training about two weeks ago, are receiving hands-on instruction in phone repairs and are expected to complete the programme with skills to pursue opportunities in the sector.
Mr Joseph Agbolanson Kukpawu, Ketu South Director of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), recently presented complete phone repair tool kits to the 30 apprentices on behalf of the MP to support their practical training.
The kits contain the essential equipment required by the trainees, enabling each beneficiary to undertake practical sessions with the appropriate tools throughout the six-month apprenticeship.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Mr Kukpawu said the programme formed part of efforts to empower young people and create pathways to employment in Ketu South.
“This is part of our commitment to youth empowerment and job creation in Ketu South. By equipping our young people with practical skills, we are building a future where they can be self-reliant and contribute meaningfully to our constituency development,” he said.
The phone repair programme adds to several skills development and youth empowerment initiatives undertaken by Madam Gomashie in the Municipality.
As part of her support for the creative arts industry, 50 young people previously underwent a six-day intensive training in movie production to sharpen their skills and improve their prospects in the industry.
She also donated movie production equipment valued at more than GH¢100,000 to support the training and strengthen the local creative arts sector.
Under another skills training and apprenticeship support programme, the MP presented start-up tools and equipment to 42 beneficiaries trained in dressmaking, hairdressing and mobile phone repairs.
The items included 24 sewing machines, 10 hair dryers, and seven boxes of mobile phone repair kits to enable the beneficiaries to begin applying the skills acquired through their respective training.
The ongoing phone repair apprenticeship therefore forms part of a broader effort to equip young people in Ketu South with practical and vocational skills that can provide opportunities for self-employment and participation in the local economy.
The 30 beneficiaries are expected to complete the six-month training with practical experience in mobile phone repairs and the necessary tools to begin applying their skills after the programme.
