Adaklu Waya (V/R), Sept. 24 GNA – Ten out of the 32 schools that participated in the last Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the Adaklu District this year scored zero percent.
Also 31 out of the 713 candidates who wrote the examinations failed.
Ms. Judith Makafui Kuagbonu, the Public Relations Officer of the Adaklu District Directorate of Education disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency in a telephone interview on Wednesday.
She continued that the best district aggregate was 18.
The PRO stated that girls outperformed the boys in the examinations.
She said that looking at the decline in the performance of pupils in the BECE in the district, the Directorate needed to improve upon its monitoring and supervision.
“We are bringing on board changes and also putting measures in place in a bid to help learners perform better,” Ms. Koagbonu said.
Ms. Kuagbonu noted that teachers also needed to redouble their efforts in teaching their students and pupils, adding that parents should see to it that they not only provided their wards with their educational needs but also study at home.
She encouraged students not to hesitate to make maximum use of their free time and make their books their best companions.
She asked them to be disciplined, determined and resilient to enable them to come out with flying colours.
Ms. Kuagbonu also called on stakeholders in the education sector to come together to overcome the challenges facing education in the district to make subsequent examinations a better one.
“I called on all stakeholders to work together to overcome the challenges facing education in the district,” she stated.
Seven hundred and thirteen candidates made up of 274 boys and 439 girls wrote the last BECE in the district.
