Kong (UW/R), Sept 27, GNA – Mr Mohammed Issah Bataglia, the Member of Parliament for Sissala East Constituency, in collaboration with the Sissala East Municipal Assembly, has handed over six development projects to contractors for construction across communities in the constituency.
The projects, funded through the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), cover education, healthcare, sanitation, community infrastructure and local economic activities, with contractors given a six-month deadline to complete the works.
The beneficiary communities included Kong Baluolo community, where a three-unit classroom block with supporting facilities would be constructed.
Speaking at Kong to hand over the project, Mr Adamu Benin Yakubu, Sissala East Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), assured the contractor and residents that funds for the projects were available and that financial constraints would not hinder their execution.
At Bandei community, work had commenced on a four-unit teachers’ quarters and a two-unit Kindergarten (KG) block with washrooms and an electricity extension.
The projects were expected to improve teachers’ accommodation and provide a better learning environment for early childhood education in the community.
At Vamboi community, the team handed over the site for construction and furnishing of a Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound, two-unit nurses’ accommodation, two-unit water closet toilet facilities and an electricity extension.
At Challu, one of the biggest communities in Sissala East Municipality, an abandoned community centre project was reawarded to a contractor for completion.
That project would include roofing, plastering, painting and the provision of administrative offices and washrooms.
The initiative formed part of efforts to complete projects inherited from previous administrations.
The community leaders at Challu appealed for a future extension of the centre and support to complete a self-help clinic maternity ward.
At Taffiasi community, sod was cut for a two-unit KG block with washrooms and an electricity extension.
The new facility was expected to replace an old and dilapidated structure currently being used by kindergarten pupils for learning.
The exercise ended with the sixth project at Tumu, the municipal capital, with the commencement of work on a modern slaughterhouse.
Mr Awolo Ibrahim, Chief Butcher of Tumu, appealed to the Municipal Assembly to consider fencing the facility after construction.
The MCE tasked all the contractors to extend electricity to the respective project sites specified and to complete the projects within the mandatory six-month period.
Representatives of the Ghana Education Service and Ghana Health Service commended the Municipal Assembly for prioritising education and primary healthcare infrastructure, particularly in rural communities.
Speaking during the exercise, Mr Mohammed Issah Bataglia, the MP, stressed the importance of collaboration and sustained commitment in delivering development to the constituency.
He said development could not be achieved through promises alone but required proper planning, adequate resources, collaboration with relevant institutions and continuous engagement with local communities.
Mr Bataglia reaffirmed his commitment to working with the Municipal Assembly, traditional and community leaders, and other stakeholders to implement projects that respond to the needs of residents across the constituency.
