Kadjebi (O/R), Sept. 01, GNA – Residents of Asuboe, Aboabo and Kpomkpa in the Kadjebi District of the Oti Region have appealed to the government to connect their communities to the national electricity grid to improve their living conditions and promote socio-economic development.
They said the absence of electricity in the communities was adversely affecting commercial activities, education, and other aspects of their daily lives.
The appeal was made on their behalf by Mr Abdul Musah, the Assemblyman for the Asuboe/Kpomkpa Electoral Area, during the Second Ordinary General Assembly meeting of the Third Session of the Kadjebi District Assembly held at Kadjebi.
Mr Musah said access to electricity would help promote small-scale businesses and enable residents, particularly the youth, to engage in productive economic activities.
He said electricity would also improve teaching and learning, as students would have the opportunity to study at night and have access to information and communication technology.
Mr Musah, therefore, appealed to the government and other stakeholders to give urgent attention to the electricity needs of the communities to accelerate their development.
Responding to the concerns, Mr Yao Gomado, the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Akan Constituency, assured the residents that efforts were underway to extend electricity to Asuboe, Aboabo, Kpomkpa, Koru and Tsitaka, among other communities.
He said he had already initiated discussions and lobbied the appropriate authorities to ensure that the beneficiary communities were connected to the national grid.
Mr Gomado said the provision of electricity remained a key development priority, noting that access to power would open up economic opportunities and improve the quality of life of residents.
The MP disclosed that six electricity transformers had been brought to the Kadjebi District this year alone to support the expansion and improvement of electricity infrastructure.
He said more transformers and other electrical equipment were expected to be supplied to the district as efforts continued to extend electricity to underserved communities.
Mr Gomado assured the residents that he would continue to work with the relevant authorities to ensure that more communities in the Akan Constituency benefited from the national electrification programme.
The residents expressed the hope that the assurance would translate into action to enable the communities to enjoy the benefits of electricity and accelerate their socio-economic development.
