Nurse remanded for allegedly conspiring with TikToker to publish, circulate false news

Accra, Sept. 17, GNA – An Adentan Circuit Court on  Thursday remanded a 40-year-old nurse, Salomey Awiti Bafoh, into police custody for allegedly conspiring with a UK-based TikToker, Barbara Asantewa Kodua, popularly known as “Ghana Jollof,” to publish and circulate false news.

Salomey is alleged to have aided Barbara in publishing and disseminating false information on September 13, 2026. The alleged offence is said to relate to matters affecting national security.

Charged with abetment of crime, Salomey pleaded not guilty.

The court, presided over by Mrs Angela Attachie, denied her bail application after the prosecution argued that the case involved national security concerns and that investigations were still ongoing.

Counsel for the accused had prayed the court to grant her bail.

Salomey is expected to reappear before the court on September 30, 2026.

The prosecution told the court that Salomey was a nurse residing at Techiman in the Bono East Region.

Barbara, also known as Ghana Jollof, operates a TikTok account under the name [email protected] and is currently based in the United Kingdom (UK).

The prosecution said Barbara had, over a period, used her social media platform to create and publish videos containing offensive and inflammatory statements with the potential to incite violence.

In one of the videos under investigation, Barbara allegedly threatened to overthrow the Government of Ghana and made other statements, including threats to burn the country.

Investigations subsequently identified Salomey as an alleged collaborator of Barbara.

The court heard that preliminary investigations had established that Salomey disseminated videos produced by Barbara by recruiting other individuals to redistribute and circulate the content on various social media platforms.

Further investigations also allegedly revealed financial transactions between the two women.

Barbara, while residing in the UK, is said to have transferred money to Salomey in Ghana to support the dissemination of the videos.

The prosecution further alleged that Salomey distributed portions of the funds to other individuals involved in circulating Barbara’s content through various social media channels.

Investigations are ongoing to identify and locate other persons who may have participated in the distribution of the videos.

Meanwhile, the police have issued a statement declaring Barbara wanted.

The statement urged members of the public with information on her whereabouts to report to the nearest police station.
