Accra, Sept. 08, GNA – The National Peace Council (NPC) has intensified efforts to resolve the 19-year-old Sampa chieftaincy dispute in the Bono Region, engaging the two claimants as part of renewed efforts to end the conflict.

The dispute, which has persisted since 2015, has resulted in violence and the loss of lives and property in the Sampa area.

A statement issued to the Ghana News Agency, on Monday, in Accra, said a delegation comprising members of its National Governing Board and the Bono Regional Peace Council undertook a mission to Sunyani and Sampa from August 17 to 20, 2026.

The mission formed part of the Council’s ongoing focus on three priority conflict zones across the country.

In Sunyani, the delegation held security briefings with the Bono Regional Minister and the Regional Security Council (REGSEC), after which it held separate meetings with the Odeefuo Ogyeamansan Boahen Korkor II, Paramount Chief of Sunyani Traditional Area, and the Sunyani Queenmother, Nana Akosua Asor Sika Dua Brayie.

The engagements were aimed at easing tensions between the two traditional leaders following the recent gazetting of the Paramount Chief.

It said at Sampa, the NPC team first met the District Chief Executive and the District Security Council (DISEC) to obtain updates on the security situation before separately engaging the two claimants to the Sampa paramountcy.

According to the statement, the delegation met Nana Toloe Samgba Gyafla II and Nana Sammor-Duah II, as well as Muslim leaders in the area, and urged all parties to de-escalate tensions, respect due process and pursue non-violent means of resolving the impasse.

The NPC commended the cooperation and participation of stakeholders in the engagements, saying the outcome of the meetings would guide its next steps in the peace process.

It appealed to the youth, traditional leaders and all stakeholders to exercise the highest level of restraint and use only civil and democratic means to address the dispute.

The Council expressed appreciation to the Bono Regional Minister, security agencies, traditional authorities and religious leaders for their support and cooperation.

It reaffirmed its commitment to continued engagement with stakeholders to consolidate peace and stability in Sampa.
