Ada, Sept. 30, GNA -Naana Kakie Foundation, a non-governmental organisation, focused on HIV/AIDS and health advocacy, has distributed 1,350 HIV self-test kits and condoms to residents in the Ada East and Ada West districts.
The distribution formed part of a six-month renewable partnership between the foundation and the Ghana HIV/AIDS Network (GHANET) to improve access to HIV self-testing.
Ms Esther Kakie Ayimavor, Chief Executive Officer of the foundation, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that GHANET provided the test kits and condoms, while her outfit served as an implementing partner responsible for the Ada East area.
Ms Ayimavor said about 50 Persons living with Disability benefited from the initiative, adding that the foundation did not conduct HIV self-testing for children below 17 years without parental consent.
She urged people with reactive results from a self-test to visit a health facility for a confirmatory test and, if confirmed positive, be linked to antiretroviral treatment (ART).
She appealed to residents to practice safe sex, avoid sharing sharp objects and test regularly to know their HIV status.
