Bolgatanga, Sept. 01, GNA – The Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly has denied reports that it has imposed a blanket ban on events and social gatherings held beyond 2000 hours within the municipality.
The Assembly said it had become aware of a publication by a section of the media in Bolgatanga, suggesting that it had placed an 2000 hours deadline on passing-out ceremonies and launching events, describing the report as inaccurate.
Mr Peter Atogewe Wedam, the Public Relations Officer of the Assembly, in a statement and copied the Ghana News Agency in Bolgatanga, said the publication, attributed to the Presiding Member of the Assembly and widely circulated on social media, did not represent the official position of the Assembly.
The statement said although the Assembly had a by-law relating to nocturnal events and ceremonies, the provision did not constitute a blanket ban on events beyond 2000 hours.
According to the statement, the Assembly revised a by-law at one of its mandatory meetings in September 2024 concerning time limitations for activities, social gatherings and ceremonies held at night.
It explained that the revised provision was specifically intended to prohibit persons below 18 years from attending such social gatherings beyond midnight.
The statement, therefore, urged the public to disregard the impression that the Assembly had imposed an 2000 hours deadline on passing-out ceremonies, launching events or other social activities within the municipality.
The statement further stated that, in line with current government policy, particularly the 24-Hour Economy initiative, it could not pass by-laws or make resolutions that were at variance with national government policy.
The statement called on the media to give the clarification the needed publicity to ensure that the public was accurately informed about the Assembly’s position.
