Mr Kwesi Amoafo, President of Achimota Golf Club, commended MTN Ghana for serving Ghanaians the best in telecommunications adding that “An anniversary does not merely tell us how long an organization has existed. It tells us what that organization has been able to preserve, build upon and carry forward”.
He said over the decades, technology had changed dramatically. The way we move money, access information and connect with one another has changed and “through those changes, MTN has become an important part of Ghana’s communications and digital landscape”.
He thanked MTN Ghana for choosing his club as host for their 30th anniversary golf tournament “And I hope the relationship between MTN Ghana and Achimota Golf Club will continue to grow in the years ahead.
“We are delighted that you chose this Club as the place to mark this important milestone, and we thank everyone who has helped make today’s event possible — the organizers, sponsors, officials, caddies, our Club management and staff, and, of course, all the golfers who joined
He congratulated the winners saying, “You have earned the right to talk about your scores.”
Dr Ishmael Yamson, Board Chairman of MTN Ghana, said, thirty years ago, the company teed off in a market few could have confidently predicted. There was no clear line of sight to over thirty million subscribers, no certainty that mobile money would become a lifeline for millions of Ghanaian households, no guarantee that fibre would one day reach into homes once thought unreachable.
“We simply took our stance, addressed the ball in front of us, and played the best shot we had.
“As we mark this thirtieth anniversary, I am reminded that in golf, no matter how well you have played the front nine, the back nine is what truly tests your character. We have had, without question, an extraordinary front nine, one that has connected a nation, empowered small businesses, extended financial inclusion to the unbanked, and helped write Ghana’s own digital transformation story.
“But we are not walking off this course today. The back nine awaits, with new holes still to play: nationwide fibre expansion, the promise of 5G, artificial intelligence, and a deeper, more sustainable partnership with every community we serve, including those still gathering, even today, under a mango tree in search of a single bar of signal.”
He added that their commitment as a telecommunication network was to reach every home and to play every remaining hole with the same discipline and integrity that brought them this far.
He thanked Ghanaians for believing in them and urged to continue using MTN as they roll out more friendly packages for every pocket.
