Accra, Sept. 14, GNA – Ghanaian clubs Medeama SC and Nations FC have both been eliminated from continental competition after suffering aggregate defeats in the 2026/27 CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup preliminary rounds respectively.
Medeama’s CAF Champions League campaign came to an end on Saturday, September 12, after a 3-1 defeat to TP Mazembe in Lubumbashi sealed a 4-1 aggregate loss to the Congolese giants.
The reigning Ghana Premier League champions travelled to the Stade TP Mazembe trailing 1-0 from the first leg at the TnA Stadium but were unable to overturn the deficit against an experienced Mazembe side.
The hosts took control early, with Patrick Mwanungulu opening the scoring in the 16th minute before Kazema Baso doubled their advantage eight minutes later to leave Medeama with a mountain to climb.
Mazembe remained in command throughout the contest and put the tie beyond doubt in the 78th minute when Mwanungulu completed his brace to make it 3-0 on the night. Dominic Amponsah grabbed a late consolation for Medeama in the 87th minute, but it was not enough to prevent the Ghanaian champions from exiting the competition.
On Sunday, Nations FC also saw their maiden CAF Confederation Cup campaign end abruptly after drawing 1-1 with FC Diarra at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The MTN FA Cup holders entered the second leg needing to overturn a 1-0 first-leg deficit and dominated possession for long spells as they searched for a route back into the tie.
However, FC Diarra struck first to increase their aggregate advantage and leave Nations facing an even greater challenge.
Although the Ghanaian side responded with an equaliser and continued to press for the decisive goal, they were unable to find the breakthrough needed to force extra time or secure qualification.
The Malian side held firm to earn a 1-1 draw on the day and complete a 2-1 aggregate victory.
The results mean Ghana’s two representatives in this season’s CAF inter-club competitions have both exited at the preliminary stage, ending their continental ambitions before reaching the group phase.
