Agbozume (V/R), Sept. 21, GNA – Hundreds of young and old natives of Somè Traditional Area participated in a health walk as part of activities marking the 2026 Sométutuza celebration, with organisers describing the turnout as a demonstration of growing youth interest in the development of the area.
The participants, who included residents from different parts of the traditional area, walked from the Agbozume Market through Nogokpo and back through parts of Somè and Klikor.
The exercise combined physical fitness with public awareness ahead of the grand celebration of Sométutuza scheduled for Saturday, September 26, 2026.
Some participants commended the organisers for what they described as an improved organisation of this year’s health walk, saying the large turnout showed the willingness of natives to support activities that brought people together.
They said although health walks had been organised as part of previous programmes, this year’s exercise had attracted significant participation from both the youth and older residents.
The participants said they were particularly encouraged by the focus of this year’s festival on the youth and issues affecting the development of the Somè Traditional Area.
They therefore urged the organisers to continue creating opportunities for the youth to take an active role in activities and development initiatives within the traditional area.
Torgbui Geli III, a member of the organising team who participated in the walk, expressed satisfaction with the turnout, particularly the participation of the youth.
He said the response demonstrated that young people were prepared to participate in development activities when they were given the opportunity and included in the process.
Torgbui Geli III said the exercise was not only aimed at promoting physical fitness but also served as an avenue to create awareness about the main Sométutuza celebration scheduled for September 26.
Mr Daniel Jerry Sorokpo, Financial Secretary of the Sométutuza programme, said the festival also sought to draw attention to some of the challenges confronting the Somè Traditional Area.
He mentioned water, sanitation, education, and youth development among the key areas requiring attention.
Mr Sorokpo said this year’s celebration would support the Somè Education Fund, which would serve as a pool to assist brilliant but needy students within the traditional area.
He said the fund was expected to contribute to efforts to support students who might otherwise face difficulties in pursuing their education.
Mr Sorokpo also said several dignitaries were expected to attend the grand durbar, which would provide an opportunity for the traditional area to raise concerns about its development needs.
He said the occasion would, among other things, be used to appeal for the restoration of potable water supply to the area.
Mr Sorokpo therefore called on natives of Somè and well-wishers both within Ghana and abroad to participate in the 2026 Sométutuza celebration and support initiatives aimed at addressing the development needs of the traditional area.
