Accra, Sept.17, GNA-Mr. Kwabena Yeboah, President of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG), has endorsed the maiden Godwin Adukpo Hill Challenge, describing the initiative as a timely platform for discovering and nurturing emerging athletic talents.
The 10-kilometre hill challenge, scheduled for September 26, 2026, in Ho, is expected to attract a large number of athletes and fitness enthusiasts nationwide.
Mr Yeboah gave the endorsement when the organising team paid a courtesy call on him to formally introduce the event and seek his support.
In his speech, the veteran broadcaster said initiatives such as the Hill Challenge were essential to complement existing efforts to develop athletics in the country.
He commended Mr. Adukpo for using his experience and achievements in athletics to inspire young people and create opportunities for upcoming athletes.
The SWAG President said the challenge could also help rekindle interest in distance running, which had produced several notable athletes over the years.
He pledged his commitment to supporting the event, stressing the need for stakeholders to come together to promote grassroots athletics and create more opportunities for young talents to develop their potential.
Mr Adukpo expressed his appreciation to Mr Yeboah for receiving the organising team and endorsing the initiative.
He reaffirmed his commitment to using the challenge as a platform to identify, mentor and nurture promising athletes, particularly young talents from the Volta Region, while promoting healthy living and sports tourism.
Madam Tilda Elinam Acorlor, Team Lead for the project said the team was using the period leading to the September 26 challenge to build strategic partnerships and mobilise support from individuals and institutions with an interest in sports development.
She added that organisers remained focused on delivering a well-organised race while laying the foundation for subsequent editions.
Also present at the meeting was Mr Eric Adzie, Event Coordinator of the Godwin Adukpo Hill Challenge.
