Zenu, Sept. 07, GNA – The Kpone-Katamanso Municipal Assembly (KKMA) is set to intensify the enforcement of sanitation by-laws at Akansa Electoral Area in Zenu, following several sanitation breaches recorded in the community.
Mr Samuel Tetteh Kwashie Morton, the Kpone-Katamanso Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), said there was the need to continuously draw residents’ attention to the importance of maintaining clean and healthy communities.
He therefore called on residents of the Akansa Electoral Area and other communities within the municipality to adhere strictly to proper sanitation practices to protect public health and create a safer environment.
Mr Morton said residents had a collective responsibility to ensure that their communities remained clean, particularly areas where they conducted their daily activities.
He urged residents to take ownership of sanitation activities and desist from practices that could create breeding grounds for disease and undermine efforts by the assembly to improve environmental sanitation.
Mr George Freeman, the Kpone-Katamanso Municipal Environmental Health Officer (MEHO), said several sanitation breaches had been observed at Akansah, prompting the assembly to intensify its sensitisation and enforcement activities.
Mr Freeman stated that sanitation officers would be deployed to communities to educate residents on the need to maintain clean surroundings and comply with the assembly’s sanitation regulations.
He warned that residents who continued to disregard the sanitation by-laws would be made to face the full rigour of the law.
He said the enforcement exercise formed part of the assembly’s broader efforts to improve environmental sanitation and promote healthy living among residents.
The MEHO urged residents to cooperate with sanitation officers and take proactive measures to keep their homes, workplaces, and public spaces clean.
The Kpone-Katamanso Municipal Assembly observed the monthly National Sanitation Day exercise at the Akansa Electoral Area as part of efforts to promote environmental cleanliness and contribute to the national campaign for a clean Ghana.
The exercise also provided an opportunity for the assembly to engage residents on their responsibilities under the sanitation by-laws and the need for collective action to sustain a clean environment.
