Keta (V/R), Sept. 30, GNA-Mr Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpey, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Keta Constituency, in the Volta Region, has donated GHS5,000 to Vodza Iron Breakers Beach Soccer Club following their historic victory in the 2025 Ghana Beach Soccer Premier League.
The Keta-based club defeated Sea Sharks of Zone 1 by 4-1 in a thrilling final played at the Ada Beach Soccer Arena to emerge national champions, marking the third consecutive title for Zone 2 teams.
Mr Gakpey, who hosted the team after their historic return from Ada, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, congratulated the players and technical team for their discipline and hard work, and for flying high the flag of Keta Constituency and the Volta Region among others in the country.
“As part of his support, I will present the trophy and the entire Vodza Iron Breakers team to the Speaker of Parliament, when the House resumes sitting, this I believe will further showcase and market the team as well as Beach Soccer as a whole in the Volta Region,” he said.
Mr Gakpey explained that the presentation would also give national recognition to the team’s achievement and highlight the potential of beach soccer in creating jobs and opportunities for the youth in coastal communities such as Keta, Anloga, Aflao, among others.
He further urged the playing body, the coaches and the entire technical team to work harder beyond their limits and achieve more trophies in the subsequent season and unearth more talent for the improvement and development of Vodza Iron Breakers.
“We have the beach here in excess, and I am happy we are making good use of it. I will do everything possible within my powers to support the beach soccer here in our constituency to shine in the country.”
He advised the players to maintain the level of discipline and desist from any form of activities such as alcoholism, smoking, among others that would affect their physical form as well as the spirit of playing beach soccer.
Mr Mawuli Joshua Kukuia, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the team who received the donation on behalf of the players, technical team and the entire management team, expressed heartfelt gratitude to Mr Gakpey for his kind gesture.
He said the team was overwhelmed by the MP’s continuous support and encouragement throughout the season and the promise to present them to the Speaker of Parliament.
He assured that the club would continue to work harder to maintain its champion status and make Keta proud at the national and international level.
He also applauded club’s striker, Wise Nyamadi, who won the Goal King award for Zone 2 with 18 goals within the season, and netting a hat-trick in the final, and has been selected to join the national team Black Sharks to face Super Sand Eagles of Nigeria in the upcoming Beach Soccer AFCON qualifiers in October this year.
