Ehi (V/R), Sept. 27, GNA – Nana Aniwah Obitrim III, Gyasehene of Okagyakrom-Buem, has called for increased investment in cassava production and processing to create jobs and improve livelihoods in local communities.
He said gari production was more than a source of staple food, describing it as an important economic activity that supported agriculture, entrepreneurship, employment and the livelihoods of many families.
Nana Obitrim made the call at the 10th anniversary celebration of the Ehi Nutome Gali Za, where he congratulated the people of Ehi, the organisers, traditional authorities and other stakeholders on their contributions to the growth of the festival over the past decade.
He said the milestone represented a decade of commitment to cultural preservation, unity and community development, adding that the celebration was not only about gari but also about farmers, hardworking women and the youth, as well as the community’s culture and shared heritage.
The Gyasehene urged stakeholders to continue investing in cassava production, modern processing, packaging, and marketing to unlock the full economic potential of the crop.
He particularly encouraged the youth to consider agriculture a viable business and an avenue for wealth creation rather than merely a traditional occupation.
Nana Obitrim also urged traditional leaders to strengthen collaboration in promoting peace, unity and development, saying festivals should serve as platforms for attracting investment and promoting tourism, education, entrepreneurship and community development.
“As we celebrate the first 10 years, let us look forward to the next 10 years with greater ambition. May the Ehi Gari Festival continue to grow and attract more people, investment and opportunities to our communities,” he said.
On behalf of the people of Okagyakrom-Buem, Nana Obitrim congratulated the people of Ehi on the anniversary and wished farmers prosperity, the youth meaningful opportunities and women continued progress.
He also prayed for peace and unity among the communities as the Ehi Nutome Gali Za entered its next decade.
