Accra, Sept. 11, GNA – Ghana forward Inaki Williams has retired from international football after representing the Black Stars at the 2022 World Cup, 2023 Africa Cup of Nations and 2026 World Cup.
The 32-year-old Athletic Bilbao striker made 28 appearances for Ghana and scored two goals during his international career.
Williams, who was born in Spain to Ghanaian parents, announced his decision in a post on X, saying he was leaving the national team with pride.
“I feel the time has come to bring my journey with the Ghana national team to an end,” Williams said.
“I leave happy, proud and with the peace of mind of knowing that I gave everything every time I wore this shirt.”
Williams said representing Ghana had given him an opportunity to reconnect with his roots and experience the pride of playing for the country.
“Ghana has given me much more than football,” he said. “It has allowed me to come back home, feel even closer to my roots and experience the enormous pride of representing my country and wearing this flag on my chest.”
He thanked Ghanaians for their support and said he would continue to back the Black Stars after his retirement.
“Ghana will always be a part of me. I will continue supporting the Black Stars as one of you, wherever I am. Medaase. Always Ghana.,” Williams said.
