Hohoe (V/R), Sept. 29, GNA – The Hohoe Municipal Assembly has expressed solidarity with residents affected by Monday’s flooding in the Municipality and assured them of its continued support.
Mr Wisdom Kporngor, Hohoe Municipal Coordinating Director, said in a press release copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the incident resulted in the inundation of homes and properties.
He said following reports of the incident, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) mobilised the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), Assembly Members of the affected communities and other relevant stakeholders to support evacuation efforts, assess the situation and safeguard lives and property.
Mr Kporngor said the MCE visited the affected areas and engaged affected residents and families, expressing sympathy over the difficulties caused by the incident.
He said in view of potential post-flood public health risks, a meeting of the Municipal Public Health Emergency Committee was convened to assess the emerging health situation and coordinate appropriate preventive and response measures in the affected communities.
Mr Kporngor urged residents in affected and low-lying areas to remain vigilant, observe strict sanitation and hygiene practices, avoid unnecessary contact with floodwater and comply with directives from health personnel.
He appealed for support for the victims.
“The Assembly further appeals to individuals, philanthropists, civil society organisations, corporate institutions and other well-meaning organisations and persons who wish to support affected households with relief items to channel such donations through the Municipal Assembly.”
Mr Kporngor said the arrangement would facilitate proper coordination, documentation and equitable distribution of relief assistance to affected households.
