Accra, Sept. 11, GNA – The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has opened entries for the 30th GJA Media Awards, with eligible journalists invited to submit outstanding works produced in 2025.
Mr Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, President of the GJA, announced this at a press conference in Accra on Friday, saying the awards remained an important platform for recognising excellence, professionalism and outstanding contributions to journalism.
He said entries opened on Thursday, September 3, 2026, and would close on Friday, September 18, 2026, at 2359 hours, with no extension to the submission deadline.
He, therefore, urged applicants to submit their entries well ahead of the deadline to avoid last-minute difficulties that could affect their participation.
Mr Dwumfour said participation was strictly limited to GJA members in good standing, adding that only works published or broadcasted between January 1 and December 31, 2025, would be eligible.
The GJA President said all entries must be submitted online through the official GJA website, and applicants were required to carefully read the submission guidelines and provide all relevant information and supporting documents.
The Association had introduced two new categories as part of its review of the Media Awards to reflect emerging trends and developments in the media industry.
These are the Bank of Ghana Governor’s Economic and Financial Story of the Year (GEFSY) and the Best Digital and New Media Platform.
Mr Dwumfour said the new categories would recognise outstanding journalism in economic and financial reporting, as well as excellence, innovation and creativity in digital and new media.
The review also resulted in the removal of the Female Journalist of the Year category, he said, explaining that the decision followed recommendations and inputs received from members during consultations on the improvement of the awards.
He noted that the GJA valued the contributions of its members and believed that the revised categories would make the awards more relevant, inclusive, and responsive to the changing dynamics of the media industry.
Mr Dwumfour said the 30th Edition was particularly significant in the history of the GJA Media Awards and pledged the Association’s commitment to making it a befitting celebration of excellence in journalism.
The awards ceremony would be held in Accra in October 2026 and expected to attract leading figures from government, business, diplomacy, traditional authorities, the media, and civil society among other sectors.
He urged eligible journalists to take advantage of the opportunity and submit their best works.
