Wudzedeke (V/R), Sept. 21, GNA – Torgbui Vizaze Adzaho V, Awadada of the Ziope Traditional Area in the Volta Region, has urged Ghanaians to sustain the legacies of Dr Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first President, and build on his achievements.
He said Dr Nkrumah demonstrated strong commitment to Ghana’s development and the advancement of Africa and urged successive generations to preserve and build on the ideals and policies that promoted national development and African unity.
Awadada Adzaho made the call in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) to mark the birthday of Dr Nkrumah, which falls on September 21.
He said Dr Nkrumah’s vision for Ghana and Africa remained relevant and therefore required collective efforts to preserve the country’s development gains and promote unity among citizens.
Torgbui Adzaho said Ghana had established itself as a beacon of democracy in Africa and urged citizens to contribute to strengthening the democratic system by respecting the rule of law, national institutions and the rights of others.
He said the country’s democracy could only be sustained when citizens exercised their freedoms responsibly and contributed positively to national discourse.
The Awadada, however, cautioned Ghanaians against taking the freedom of speech for granted, particularly on radio, television and social media platforms.
He urged citizens to exercise restraint and verify information before publishing or sharing statements that could inflame tensions, cause public disorder, or undermine the peace and stability of the country.
Torgbui Adzaho said the responsible use of social media was particularly important in protecting Ghana’s democratic gains, noting that freedom of expression came with responsibility.
He appealed to the youth to study the history and contributions of Ghana’s founding generation and draw inspiration from their sacrifices and vision for the country’s development.
He said remembering Dr Nkrumah should go beyond annual celebrations and should inspire citizens to promote patriotism, discipline, unity and commitment to national development.
He urged Ghanaians to work together to build a peaceful, democratic and prosperous country that would continue to play a leading role in Africa.
