Accra, Sept. 24, GNA – Mr. Stanley Martey, Chief Manager of Public Relations at Ghana Water Ltd. (GWL), has been featured among 10 leading Ghanaian communications and public relations practitioners recognised by Africa PR Week for their contribution to shaping how organisations communicate with the public.
The spotlight formed part of Africa PR Week’s focus on professionals working across corporate communications, public service, consultancy, PR education and digital storytelling.
Mr. Martey, who has more than two decades of experience in public relations and communications, was recognised alongside practitioners from the energy, banking, manufacturing, mining, government, education, and strategic communications sectors.
Africa PR Week described the initiative as an opportunity to highlight professionals contributing to the evolving communications landscape in Ghana and across Africa.
Other practitioners featured included Dr Charles Nii Ayiku Ayiku, General Manager of External Communications at the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG); Donald Gwira, Strategic Communications Consultant and Vice President of the Institute of Public Relations (IPR), Ghana; Henry Nii Dottey, Regional Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications, West Africa Anglophone, UBA Group; and Kenneth Aidam, Communications Manager, West Africa, Fan Milk.
Also featured were Mr Kojo Yankah, Founder and President of the African University of Communications and Business; Mr Mawuko Afadzinu, Executive Head of Marketing at Stanbic Bank Ghana; Mr Nasir Ahmad Yartey, Head of Public Relations at the Ministry of Roads and Highways; Mr Samuel Osei, Manager, Communications and External Relations at Newmont Corporation; and Mr Edward Asare, Marketing Communications Manager at NextWave Ltd.
Mr Martey said the recognition reinforced his commitment to transparent public communication and responsible service delivery at GWL.
His inclusion in the Africa PR Week spotlight comes at the back of a series of recognitions for his work in public sector communication and GWL’s broader communications efforts.
In November 2025, Mr Martey was named Public Sector PR Personality of the Year at the 14th Marketing World Awards organised by InstinctWave.
GWL also received the Public Sector PR Team of the Year award, while the company was adjudged Public Sector Brand of the Year (Utility).
The Marketing World Awards board attributed GWL’s brand recognition to its increased visibility, improved consumer engagement, and commitment to transparent communication, particularly in providing water supply updates, promoting digital billing reforms, and educating the public on water conservation.
The recognition also demonstrates the growing importance of communication in the operations of public utilities, where public understanding and confidence are closely linked to the timely and accurate dissemination of information.
At GWL, Mr Martey has been involved in communicating issues ranging from water supply interruptions and operational challenges to public education, customer engagement, and efforts to address illegal connections and other forms of commercial water losses.
The Institute of Public Relations, Ghana, which lists Mr Martey as an accredited member, said he had served at Ghana Water Ltd. for more than 26 years and has developed expertise in stakeholder engagement, crisis management, and media relations.
The Africa PR Week initiative comes at a time when the communications profession is undergoing significant changes, driven by digital platforms, changing audience expectations and the growing demand for organisations to communicate with greater speed and transparency.
Africa PR Week broader programme seeks to bring together professionals from public relations, branding, media, and communications, as well as stakeholders from government, business, academia, and consumer-facing organisations.
The engagement is intended to stimulate discussions on the present and future of public relations in Africa and position the continent as an important voice in global communications.
