Accra, Sept. 23, GNA – Ghana will mark this year’s World Tourism Day with a week-long celebration, integrated with the Eastern Expo in Koforidua, Eastern Region, from September 26 to October 3, 2026.
The celebration, on the theme: “Unlocking Opportunities for Sustainable Trade, Tourism and Investment,” will bring together stakeholders in tourism, culture, creative arts and investment to promote sustainable development and explore new opportunities within the sector.
The programme would provide a platform for businesses, tourism operators, exhibitors, investors, policymakers and the public to connect, showcase products and services, exchange ideas and explore opportunities for collaboration.
In a release issued to the Ghana News Agency, on Tuesday, in Accra, it said the week-long programme would officially open on Monday, September 28, with Madam Abla Dzifa Gomashie, Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, expected to lead the opening ceremony.
The ceremony would bring together key stakeholders and partners to highlight the contribution of tourism to economic growth, job creation, enterprise development and community participation.
“Activities would commence on Saturday, September 26, with a health walk aimed at promoting wellness and encouraging public participation in the celebrations.”
The walk woulf also provide an opportunity for stakeholders and residents to engage in a healthy recreational activity as the region prepares to host visitors from across the country.
“On Sunday, September 27, which is observed globally as World Tourism Day, a sensitisation workshop will be held on the global theme: “Digital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence to Redesign Tourism”.”
The release said the workshop would bring together relevant stakeholders to discuss opportunities and challenges associated with the use of digital technologies and artificial intelligence in tourism, while promoting sustainable practices and investment in tourism-related enterprises.
“Also on Sunday, seminars will provide participants with opportunities to engage experts and industry players on issues relating to tourism promotion, with emphasis on practical opportunities that can contribute to local economic development.”
It said as part of the Expo, exhibitors would showcase various tourism products and services, creating opportunities for marketing, networking and business linkages.
The celebration is expected to align with the Black Star Experience and World Tourism Day, while promoting the Eastern Region as a tourism and investment destination and creating opportunities for local businesses and communities.
It encouraged stakeholders to participate actively in the celebration as Ghana seeks to strengthen a sustainable tourism sector that contributes to national development and livelihoods.
