Amasaman, (Accra), Sept. 10, GNA-Hajia Mariam Nketia Suleiman, the National Secretary of the women’s wing of the Islamic Mission Secretariat (ISM) has urged Muslim families to inculcate in the minds of their children sound Islamic values and teachings.
She said doing so would protect the Islamic child from being enslaved by social media influences and adulterated foreign cultures.
Hajia Suleiman also called on Muslim women and girls to uphold and defend Islamic teachings and values in their career path too.
She was speaking at the closing session of the 28th Annual National Women’s Conference of the wing at Amasaman in the Ga West Municipality of the Greater-Accra Region.
The four-day conference was on the theme: “Preserving Islamic values as women in the contemporary world towards national development”.
Hajia Suleiman advised that: “We must endeavour to teach our daughters that they can be literates without abandoning their faith, pursue careers, without abandoning their values, and use technology without becoming slaves to it”.
She explained the women’s wing of the IMS sought to mobilize Muslim women as agents of change and development and enlighten them with the teachings of Islam.
“National development cannot be achieved when half of society is left behind”, she stated.
Hajia Suleiman stressed the wing’s dedication to build and shape Muslim women and girls to be more spiritually grounded, intellectually equipped, economically empowered, socially responsible, and nationally conscious.
“The wing will therefore continue to remind and encourage our fellow women that true empowerment isn’t simply financial independence but also knowledge, character, faith, confidence and the ability to make meaningful contributions to family and society”, she stated.
Hajia Suleiman noted that the wing had over the years demonstrated that: “Muslim women are not merely beneficiaries of development, but agents of development”.
She said the wing mobilised support in diverse ways for vulnerable people and institutions, saying that its Ramadan Prison Inmates Feeding Project remained a consistent expression of compassion for the vulnerable.
Hajia Suleiman stressed that: “When a Muslim woman is educated and economically empowered, the entire family benefits and the household grow stronger”.
