The intergovernmental organisation for development highlighted the country’s achievements
Sept 11 (TV BRICS/GNA) – Ethiopia has made significant progress in the use of artificial intelligence (AI), enabling it to compete at a global level. This was stated by Mohamed Abdi Ware, Deputy Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), reports ENA, a TV BRICS partner.
He added that Ethiopia’s use of AI in agriculture, healthcare, education and finance represents valuable experience that could serve as an example for other African countries. The Intergovernmental Authority on Development intends to establish a regional partnership that will enable member states to draw on Ethiopia’s experience.
Taye Girma, Deputy Director General of the Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute, said that Ethiopia is ready to share knowledge, experience and professional expertise with the organisation’s member states, as well as jointly implement technological initiatives.
According to Girma, such exchanges could open up new opportunities to strengthen digital connectivity among East African countries and enable states to pool their technological capabilities to address common challenges.
The expansion of cooperation reflects a broader shift in countries across the Horn of Africa towards using technology, innovation and regional knowledge exchange as strategic tools for development. This could potentially turn artificial intelligence into a new driver of regional integration and economic transformation, the Ethiopian News Agency notes.
