Bodi (WN/R), Sept. 26, GNA – The Bodi District Assembly in the Western North Region has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the World Vision Ghana, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), to accelerate the provision of safe and potable drinking water for underserved communities in the district.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Mr Stephen Baidoo, the Bodi District Chief Executive (DCE), described the agreement as timely, noting that access to safe water remained a major challenge for many communities in the area.
He said the MoU would help the district to accelerate it efforts to achieve sustainable development in terms of providing clean water and better sanitation for all.
Mr Wilbert Petty Brentum, the Western North Regional Minister, said the government alone could not meet the growing development needs of communities, saying strategic partnerships of this nature were essential to achieving national development goals.
He noted that collaborations between district assemblies, development agencies, and private institutions played a critical role in expanding access to basic social services including safe drinking water for communities.
Mr Robert Wamison, the Associate Director for Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) at World Vision Ghana, noted that their aim was to deliver transformative and sustainable WASH services to children and communities in 23 targeted districts across 11 regions.
He said the NGO had already launched the WASH business plan that sought to reach more than 700,000 people with safe water services, promote improved sanitation for 343,000 individuals and deliver dignified hygienic services to 535,000 people across the country.
He, therefore, called on stakeholders to join hands in providing water and sanitation services to the most vulnerable communities the country.
