Accra, Sept. 13, GNA – Mr Samuel Atta-Akyea, counsel for Kwabena Adu-Boahene, Madam Angela Adjei Boateng and Advantage Solutions Limited, has denied claims that he has abandoned his clients in their ongoing criminal trial.
Kwabena Adu-Boahene, former Director General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), his wife, Angela Adjei-Boateng, and another accused person are being prosecuted over the alleged theft of GH¢49 million belonging to the state.
He said reports circulating on social media that he had abandoned the accused over evidence alleged by the prosecution to be fake were false.
Mr Atta-Akyea said the document in question was admitted in evidence by the High Court without objection.
The case is being heard by Justice Francis Apangabuno Achibonga, sitting as an additional High Court Judge.
In a public notice issued on Thursday, Mr Atta-Akyea described the claims as “wretched and vile propaganda,” and said the legal team remained committed to defending the accused.
“Our legal team is very busy putting together a very solid and credible submission of no case,” he said.
He expressed the hope that the submission would help clarify the issues surrounding the allegations against his clients.
Mr Atta-Akyea said the court remained the appropriate forum for evidence and the law to determine disputed matters, particularly in what he described as his clients’ “unfortunate propaganda-driven trial.”
The prosecution’s case against Mr Adu-Boahene and the other accused persons involves allegations concerning the handling of funds belonging to a state security agency.
Mr Atta-Akyea said the legal team would rely on the evidence before the court and applicable law in presenting its submission of no case.
He also expressed the hope that God would “turn on the light to dispel the darkness” surrounding the allegations.
Mr Atta-Akyea signed the notice in his capacity as counsel for the accused persons.
