Manila, Sept 20. (dpa/GNA) – At least three students were killed and several others injured in a shooting at a school in the Philippine province of South Cotabato, authorities say, correcting an earlier account of six fatalities.
The teenage gunman was among the dead, after taking his own life, according to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
The shooting took place at Banga National High School in the municipality of Banga in South Cotabato province on the southern island of Mindanao.
The injured were taken to hospital, while police secured the scene and launched an investigation. There was no immediate information about a possible motive.
Authorities suspended classes across the municipality following the attack. The Department of Education said it was coordinating with local authorities and police, as they investigated the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Social workers were at the scene providing support to affected children and families, DSWD said.
